The Return of the MGUK Registration Figures thread

Postby Sandie » Mon Jan 04, 2016 11:12 pm

The final registrations for 2015 will be disclosed later on this week so time, I think, for a little recap of previous months results (including the MG3/MG6 split). 2014 figures in brackets.

January 2015:
MG3: 106 (80)
MG6: 29 (58)
Total: 135 (128)

February 2015:

MG3: 37 (31)
MG6: 26 (16)
Total: 63 (47)

March 2015:

MG3: 440 (298)
MG6: 221 (63)
Total: 661 (361)

April 2015:
MG3: 239 (169)
MG6: 69 (52)
Total: 308 (221)

May 2015:
MG3: 240 (181)
MG6: 28 (60)
Total: 269 (241)

June 2015:

MG3: 199 (172)
MG6: 35 (24)
Total: 234 (196)

July 2015:

MG3: 219 (162)
MG6: 18 (41)
Total: 237 (203)

August 2015

MG3: 39 (52)
MG6: 4 (24)
Total: 43 (76)

September 2015:
MG3: 451 (295)
MG6: 60 (62)
Total: 511 (357)

October 2015:

MG3: 143 (161)
MG6: 16 (27)
Total: 159 (188)

November 2015:

MG3: 228 (118)
MG6: 21 (52)
Total: 249 (170)

December 2015:

MG3: 262 (71)
MG6: 21 (57)
Total: 283 (128)

That's 2,869 cars up to the end of November made up of 2,341 MG3s and 527 MG6s (and one 'something else' registered in May as those numbers add up to 2,868). Facelift 6 came out in April and, as we can see, has had fuck all impact with MG6 registrations decreasing since then. This year's modest increase in registration numbers has been almost entirely down to the Flea and Hertz taking the last of the MK1 MG6s in March.

(Edited to include December split)

Thank you for this. I was going to suggest that the numbers should be added as core information - if only we had a homepage...

I was reminded of Ghoul MG's Vigorous* Rise when I read this:

PaedBC wrote:Curious as to how strict a dealership would be, I went to the local VSP outlet - it's not a regular garage, they are sold alongside tractors and motor-mowers.

The salesman tells me they sell three a week on average. So, would they sell a voiturette to just anyone who walked in off the street? "Mais, oui," he says, "provided they have insurance." But what about knowing what to do at a roundabout? It turns out that the salesman takes the would-be purchaser for a spin. If he and the car come back in one piece, he'll do the deal.

150 'cars' (and they're not cheap) a year sold by a rural garagiste in Brittany. Can any of the Ghoul MG network match this?

The MG6 is a pathetic seller, my local* dealer has had a black TS on the forecourt for months and It's already got over £2k knocked off its RRP.

Also the stop-start MG3 looks to be a potential headache with parts as it seems it might be a UK only model. Stop start systems are a lot more than just an uprated battery and alternator and with the potential of unique and expensive Chinese made electrics, maybe the earlier cars will be the ones to opt for for long term use?

Can the stop-start be configured out?

B** allow this, but you have to give them a written instruction and a valid reason.

An acquaintance wrote on a dealer's compliment slip "My wife has a colostomy bag", and signed it.

AFAIK this is untrue, but it did the trick.

I'm wondering why they bothered to introduce the facelift. It's made sales even worse. Perhaps people have been turned off by the minimal colour range and loss of larger wheels?

The lickers are all saying that these slowly increasing numbers are signs of success but I wonder what the overlords in China make of them? Perhaps telling is the recently circulating rumour that Cheyne has lost the head of sales and marketing gig? If this is accurate it would be the second person to have been canned from that position in a year following Guy Jones.

I've seen several facelift MG6s and they look like a cheap product, the Mk1 models somehow look and feel quite a bit better. MG should just sell one model, the top of the range car for £10k in red, white, blue or racing green and be done with it.

I'd fucking love to know how many of these registrations are genuine sales. I'm still convinced there's a massive yard full of pre-registered cars somewhere.

There was shitloads of Fleas in the yard at Wongbridge when we visited during Gay Pride, and I mean shitloads. A couple of hundred, I reckon.

They have to get the spare parts from somewhere.
