Oh there's a 1/4" of key broken off in the ignition swtich, so don't bother trying to drive it off.

Fucking useless BL legacy part.

I recovered it yesterday.

I tried to remove the broken bit of key using a magnet and thin screwdriver, but all that came out were lots of metal filings, so I guess the whole lock is fucked.

After some hammering I managed to get the steering lock to release without removing it, so I was able to drive it back - albeit with the immobiliser cutting in at random until I worked out which multiplug to pull to disable it.

New steering lock ordered, so the third worst car on MacD will live on....

I think we should have an about-turn on our stance regarding Gilesí R17 and throw the full-weight of MacDroitwich support behind it.

Or give it to the Bobniston cars team they'll lose it in a field for you for months on end (I'm not bitter)

Maybe the apprentice engineers at Bobniston could cut their teeth on it?

At the very least it would put most of them off a career in the motor industry, the rest would realise that Bob spends far too much time making sure things fit properly.

Some rainy harvest days have allowed me to get this into the workshop for some TLC.

Changed fluids and filters.
Replaced leaky cam seals with some proper NOS seal caps that I sourced.
Replaced steering lock. Got arse-fucked to the tune of £200 by Rimjobs for that.
Fixed several pieces of loose trim and bits.

It will HERITAGE again, but on the upside I do now have a GENUINE Rover ignition key which is just LOVELY. I literally can't stop touching it.
