It’s great how, as they destroy cars in the film the replacement gets progressively worse.

I liked that film too. Runs Die Hard 3 close for the best use of a Yugo in Hollywood.

He was only the German correspondent for Car magazine for about 489 years, so I'm not surprised you missed his columns.

An enormously tall and now equally fat Austrian motoring journalist who now lives in some comfort in Starnberg, Bavaria, the richest town in Germany.

As Derek says, he's been writing for CAR since I was a boy. His first article was about buying a Peugeot 504 from an opera singer in Salzburg, and driving it to somewhere in North Africa with some fellow students to sell at a considerable profit.

I once sat beside him at a Ghoul Borgward presentation. but I was too taciturn to make his acquaintance. I've been told since that it wouldn't have been worth the bother.

Quite what the fuck he wants with the Serbian bastardised Fiat 127 is beyond me. In Boring Boring CAR he always seems to have the pick of the most expensive and egregious offerings of his adoptive nation's motor industry.

Funf, they say you should never meet your heroes - but I imagine you've met a few of them?

I hear GK is close to retirement, not least because the high-ranking German car industry execs he had befriended to give himself such good access and insider knowledge are now either retired or in prison.
