Quite possibly. I saw it on Craig England’s MG MOTOR UNOFFICIAL group a few days ago. Some random Twitter screenshot and folk suggesting it was the Roewe Ei5.

The car Carlos Tavares said couldn't be made.

Quite surprising that no one else is doing an electric estate yet, though.

The article mentions it, but I'd rather they did the new 6 here: https://www.chinapev.com/saic/mg6-phev-will-also-have-a-trophy-version-with-max-power-of-224kw/ but Brouwer was right about that one.

It doesn’t surprise me that MG have no intention of bringing many models here. They don’t value the UK market but sell just enough to be able to refer to the ‘Britishness’ of the marque in their home market advertising.

They've sold over 3 times the number of cars in this country as Alfa Romeo have so far this year.

So you think they should bring to market a car that will be in a sector which accounts for approximately 3% of the market, at best and compete against long-established main-stays like the Mx5 and B** Z4?

Total waste of time - ask Fiat - and for the lickers and war-hair brigade who suggest they’d be interested is horse-cobbles.

That they have a better understanding of products for this country than Alfa.

I doubt if MG will launch a product here with such a limited demand, the electric ZS is viable as they already sell the petrol models here so some sort of parts/servicing infrastructure is already in place.

I imagine the next model to be launched will be the HS, I imagine they might look at selling a electric version as well at some point or a hybrid in a similar way to the ZS.

MG claim they want to market an electric sports car, that is actually a real possibility as CHI-NA is a large market for electric vehicles, far larger than here proportionally. They could well bring it to the UK and currently would have the market in mass produced affordable electric sports cars pretty much all to them selves.

My point is that the narrative of MG Motor UK being a failing vanity project selling dozens of cars is about as outdated as the rest of your material.

On this we agree. Doesn't need to be a sportscar either. A sporty hatchback, maybe?

Quia do the Stinger, Hyundai do the i30 N range and Skoda do various vRS models. All budget brands without the sporting history of MG, but all understand the importance of brand building. MG give us slow crossovers and EVs with small wheels.

They say they're doing the E-Motion, but that's nothing more than vapourware at this point. It remains to be seen what it will offer in terms of range, performance and price. Even if something does come out I suspect it will fail on at least one because EV.

I've thought about that, but they do the GS for a laughably small number of sales, and that has more in common with Vauxhalls (the engine from an Insignia) and arguably SsangYongs (if you believe some of the rumours about the platform) than the rest of the MG range.

The way electric vehicles work mean that they are often less punishing on consumables and servicing wise would presumably have a lot in common with the ZS EV.

They've never cared about parts supply or demand in the past, as the GS and facelift 6 showed.

If we go by the article, the issues will be a shite range and styling that's the automotive equivalent of Anne Widdecombe. Here's some spy shots, looks like a straightforward rebadge of the Rongwe:

So that MG makeover the lickers were convinced it was getting... https://mg.co.uk/mg5-ev/

214m range is a fair bit better than the ZS EV to be fair.

Cheaper than the ZS EV, I can see it making inroads in the fleet market, they won't be too concerned about it looking like it's from 2002.

No it won't.
The only fleets buying estates are for service engineers, and they won't go EV outside London. No centralised way of paying for electrons means the effort tallying up half a dozen different apps and cards per Engineer wipes out the miniscule saving in running cost. Can't charge at home, no way to monitor usage. Then add in an hour a day minimum sat unproductive on a charger.
Never going to happen.

The official MG5 EV press pics have been taken within Longbridge in front of the few structures yet to be RAZED TO THE GROUND. Seems a little INSENSITIVE.
