All those cars started life as daily rentals and will have the first owner as 'Rovard Facilities'. I know, I WAS THERE. |

This comment on the video is (unusually for YouTube) worth a read:

I’ve been in Electroplating for 46 years, I was production manager at a plating factory in Walsall in the 90s where we chrome plated most of the interior and exterior parts for all these models. The front Grille and the rear number plate surrounds where plated to a very high specification. The substrate was Zinc die cast, and we would dress and fine linish it before a heavy copper plate , about 40 microns, it was then highly polished to a mirror finish and then plated with a Duplex NIckel deposit, which mean 2 layers, first one was a semi bright nickel to 20/25 microns, then a bright nickel, to 8/10 microns, and then a microporous Hexavalent chrome.
After plating we would guarantee the spec with salt spray testing and it would achieve 500 hrs before any sign of corrosion was observed.
24 hrs in a salt spray cabinet it equal to 1 year outdoor use.
So I would like to guess that if you clean all the moss and dirt off these vehicles my bit would still be in pristine condition.
The factory was William Bates, Hospital Street, Walsall.
And we plated parts for all the big car companies, Rover, Jaguar, Ford .
I could, and did work any hours I wanted to , it was a 24hr 7 day operation back in the days when chrome was King. Over 600 employees working there. It’s now Houses.
Thanks for the memories.
Hope I didn’t bore you. |
