Why do you hat the motoring public so much?

A question you should be directing to manufacturers who specify daft low profile tyres on cars for which they are entirely unsuited.

Seaspacker is RITE. People donít want rubber band tyres but manufactures tell them that they do by fitting the top end models with ever decreasing sidewall profiles. Itís bonkers.

Itís just looks. Generally speaking more folk throwing wedge at a car are how it looks (to themselves and others) than the ride.
Arches look shite filled with rubber, despite how much better we all know it is.

You can't see it when you're driving. But you can fucking feel it.

I genuinely think the result of the fashion for SUVs, combined with the daft business of oversized wheels with undersized tyres, has conditioned car buyers to accept ride quality that would have embarrassed most family cars of a generation ago.

My X-Lax is now fitted with a new set of alloys after finding hairline cracks in two of the old wheels. Itís a big problem on them as many of the OE alloys can easily warp through kerbing (18Ē Proteus are especially susceptible) or developing stress cracks (Aruba wheels seem to pretty bad at this).
I could have gone for 18Ē wheels but the ride would be made worse and it had a nearly new set of 17Ē Pirelli tyres already fitted so Iíve stuck with 17Ē wheels.

You make my point for me. No Mondeo needs anything larger than 15" wheels.

But they donít care. They want people to covet their goods not be envious of their healthier lower-back.

The real win is to find the right combo of wheel size and tyre depth. B** and VAG have tended to accept that the 18Ē rims fitted to the S3/M140I offer this, Iím inclined to agree as they still fill the arches enough.

Thereís also the argument that wheels that are too small and sidewalls too deep can actually make handling choppy and dangerous at speed. Although economy-conscious or penny pinching drivers wonít experience this whilst driving so sedately.

15Ē wheels will hit the brake callipers.
The unfortunate price one pays for owning a car with decent performance, it needs brakes man enough to stop it at nearly twice the legal limit.

Not something you would ever need of course.

To be fair, at a maximum speed of 1 SSU (Seaspacker Speed Unit = 27 mph) the twin leading shoe drums from a real mini with 10 inch wheels would be sufficient.

I'm fucking this off. It hurts my back too much, combination of low Down seat, manual and 20 years of GRASS FED FARMER has ruined the seat too.
So, 3k budget, auto and 4x4.
Brings pretty much everything mainstream at 200k miles into the market. Lexus RX300s too.
Halps....

Regardless of your stance on B** a 15 year old X5 with at least one buckled wheel is about as desirable as being stuck in a lift with Pearly just after heís eaten a Big Mac
