From the MG6 owners group on flidbook.

Quote:
Car has been stalling at lights few times, traction control light popped up few times, booked into MG for next Monday for diagnostic, since
I have had air bag failure light come up, a screen popped up saying passenger air bag off.
I manually swithed the air bag off with key on passenger, got in car started car, it went through the motions on panel display..air bag light stayed on..
Then.. BOOM BOOM BOOM ..bags all deployed.. put my arms up to protect my face.. cut my arms up ..popped the windscreen

Comments are great.

“Ticking time bomb these cars. An embarrassment to the MG name”
“You need to contact MG UK directly, and if they are worthy of any sort of respect, they will want the car back to see what's gone wrong, like luke mentioned, that's a potential fatility there”

“Bloody hell get them clowns at mg to pick it up and get your money back luckily no-one died in that and that's disgusting”

etc..

How old is the car in question? Didn’t the first Rover Group cars fitted with airbags come with a service action to replace them every 10 years?

All cars did afaik but I've never heard of one deciding to explode as it wasn't serviced.

If this did happen, I suspect the airbag ECU was at fault. Maybe water ingress.

This could be an 8 year old car that's a long way out of warranty. Why should MG do anything?

Mrs B's Corolla Verso was recalled last year at the grand old age of 12 for precautionary replacement of airbag ECU. Now THAT'S customer service.
