As many facelifts as Allegro and Marina, plus 6 campaign models and 3 mid cycle uplifts (LCA lifecycle activity)

The Avensis? If the article is half as good as the Avensis, it'll be an exciting read

They felt very cheap and dynamically underwhelming.

Here is where you and I must agree to disagree. I think they felt far from cheap, some of the best quality thickest steel we ever used went into these. Dynamically no better or worse than our Passat of similar vintage. The alloys on the T3-X were dogshit thought, I'll give you that.

We ordered a brand new 57 plate 1.8 manual hatch from Westlands Toyota in Stourbridge to replace our 52 plate Rover 75 1.8 Tourer. It was leagues behind the Rover. The seat trim was particularly nasty and dynamically it was vague as fuck. It was chopped in for a new Civic after 4 years.

57 plate, would be facelift. It got cheapened. 1.8 engine never really had enough guts. The handling always seemed ok to me.

They really didn't like you being on the brakes and taking a roundabout. They weren't as tail happy as the previous shape though. The V-plate one we has back then was really into oversteer. Mel killed the dampers on that one in short order.
